Well priced and fully capable CPU.

Strengths: Affordable dual core alternative to Intel processors.

Weakness: Relatively high power usage.

I wanted to try a HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) build, found a motherboard (ASUS M2A-VM HMDI) that I wanted to use, and that called for an AMD Socket AM2 processor. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ provided a nice trade off in speed (2.4 GHz) and price (under $100), especially considering it is a dual core processor. The installation was easy, but the included heatsink required a bit of effort...

Absolute Best Deal for the dollar

Strengths: Price, Duo Core Architecture, lightning fast, great stock HS/fan

Weakness: 89W power, 90nm technology

Normally in life you get what you pay for - not the case with this AMD X2 4600+ I upgraded from an AMD Barton 2800+ and was literally blown away by the speed increase. Coupled with a new SATA drive and 2GB of Corsair Memory, I now see Windows XP load in roughly 10-12 seconds from power on. Price for performance dictates that this is the sweet spot. If you are like me and you want a solid CPU...

Fast, solid, stable

Strengths: Fast speed, DDR2-800 full-speed compatibility, easily overclockable, doesn't break the bank

Weakness: Heat, Aluminum heatsink (will expand on that later)

This processor is amazing for gaming. The 512K per core cache gives slightly less performance than its 1MB per core counterpart. The difference is negligible (2 - 3% in most tests). Because the processor runs at a speed divisible by 400, you can run DDR2-800 ram at its full speed, rather than some other number (e.g. 667). One of the weaknesses of the product is that it generates a lot of heat....

Powerfull CPU

Strengths: Faster than the 939 at the same speed. OCs easily to 2.6G High memory bandwidth, even with budget DDR2-667 (9400+ mb/s). A lot of bang for the buck.

Weakness: Gets hot, needs a good heatpipe heatsink. The stock sink

By far this is a big improvement over all the previous X2s. I've run semprons, XPs, Athlon 939s and an Opteron. This is by far the best performer so far. Will easily OC to HTT=215 at stock Vcore running at 2580 Mhz. Sandra scored 18657/15788 on the Aritmetic Cpu score and 9480/8960 on the ram bandwidth. 1M superPi in 36s. ECS RS485-M_M mobo, Windsor 4600 X2, 512M PQI DDR2-667 Value. Fortron...

Incredible Processor!!!

Strengths: Very fast, dual core (good multitasking), AM2 socket, 64bit compatable (Vista ready), price

Weakness: none

I upgraded from an Athlon 3400+ and the difference is amazing. Windows starts up faster, games load quicker, and ripping cd's to my library takes half the time now. The multitasking is great as well. I have had aim open, windows live messenger with video call active, burning a dvd, ripping music and playing music all at the same time without any problems, simply amazing. For the price, this is a...

Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (89W)

Strengths: Price and Performance. Nice heatsink included in retail box.

Weakness: None

There are obviously faster processors out there, but at the time I bought it, this was the best processor for under $100. They also make a Athlon 64 X2 4600+ that uses less energy (65W vs 89W). But when I bought this, that processor cost $15 more.

4600 AM2 Excellant Value and Speed for the Lowest...

Strengths: Great new low price before this could only afford x23800 or intel smithfields. Many great motherboards to use on. Easy on power consumption.

Weakness: None

Has about the same speed ranges as a conroe e6400 and e6600 but costs a lot less than either. 4600 AM2 AMD supports DDR2 800 and higher. Great array of video cards to choose from. Supported by alot of motherboards and video cards. Supports Linux and Vista tested and ok.

Great Dual-core processor!!

Strengths: Super fast.

Weakness: None.

I am able to run multiple programs at once using this dual-core processor. the speed is fantastic. The ability to multi task is some much better than my old single core processor.

Yet Another Great AMD Processor

Strengths: 64 Bit Vista compatible; AM2 socket; fast and reliable multitasking

Weakness: None

This processor runs great in my Mini-ATX case. System is running dual TV tuner cards; able to record on one tuner, display the other TV on the LCD and still run other light load background applications with no problems. The processor has handled all my expectations with room to go for more.

AMD Athlon X2 4600+ | 90nm - 89W

While not the flashiest of computer processors the AMD Athlon X2 4600+ makes up for its lack of power and energy efficiency in price. Aimed at competing with Intel in the low end market, basic Athlon X2 processors such as the 4600+ cost only a fraction of what they did months ago. Not the greatest of processors for heavy encoding or gaming, but proficient for the majority of computer users....
