IBM Desktar 180 GXP 180GB

Strengths: Fast and quiet. Lots of support info at hgst.com.

Weakness: Run hotter than other drives.

Formatted to 172GB NTFS under Win XP and ran smoothly. Previously crashed under Win 2K when usage exceeded half the capacity (above ~ 90GB). Technical support could not tell the problem so I moved the drive to another system running Win XP. Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP 180GB runs a bit hotter than other drives probably because of the larger number of plates. But its fast performance was noticeable as...
