Cavalry External 500GB drive

Strengths: Speed and ports

Weakness: None that I have observed

I wanted an external drive that offered a USB 2.0 port but also for the future an eSATA port. This drives satisfies both requirements admirably. With the appetite of larger and larger applications and data files, this size of 500 GB is an optimum in both size and cost. I have saved all my Word, Excel, Music, photos, and financial data on this drive as a backup drive

Cavalry CAXM37500 expands SA8300HD DVR storage

Strengths: eSATA Plug and Play on Scientific Atlanta 8300HD. Adds 500GB storage to existing 160GB in DVR supplied by Comcast, Cox, TW, many other cable companies.

Weakness: Known to work with SARA, yet to be confirmed with Passport.

HDD received by most so far is Western Digital WD5000AAKS, but no guarantee on which HDD is inside. See huge thread on avsforum for specifics on using this and other external eSATA HDD to expand capacity of cable company supplied DVR SA8300HD: www.avsforum.com/avs-v...

Great backup for a good price

Strengths: ease of setup. Dual interface. USB and SATA. Excellent speed with SATA interface

Weakness: fan is noisey and seems to run a little hot. Did not come with a udright stand as pictured.

I would definitely recommend for the price. Works as advertised. I like the dual interface. Seems to work well with both USB and SATA. I would buy another when I need the storage space.

Great for the money

Strengths: Very quiet, dual interface, cool case

Weakness: Still uses a brick power instead of built in power supply.

I bought this as a backup drive, so speed wasn't really an issue. The eSATA and USB interfaces are great, as I have old a new PC's to back up. It's a nice, small, quiet, cool case, but the power supply is an external brick. I just prefer a built in PS so I can use standard cables... I know that increases heat, etc...

nice drive for the money...

Strengths: compact, eSata and USB connections

Weakness: case is a little frail, it wasn't what is pictured here, no stand

For the money ($105) you can't beat this drive (500gb) for offline storage. The two options for connectors (USB and eSata) are great -- all the hardware is included. I got it to replace an external 320gb Iomega (WD internal to the case) drive which just decided to die for no reason 15 months after I got it. No more Iomega drives for me. Now if this Cavalry will last a few years it'd be superb.

Huge Hard Drive at a Great Price

Strengths: * Large storage capacity * Fast transfer speeds * Power and fan on/off switches * Stylish compact case

Weakness: * None so far

At first I was somewhat hesitant about this brand, but after I saw some good reviews and found that the hard drive inside is made by Western Digital, I had no more doubts and ordered it on NewEgg.com. I received my hard drive less than a week later at an APO address. I still haven’t used this hard drive on a desktop with an eSATA interface. However, it’s still quite fast over USB. The power...

Good harddrive, rebate a scam

Strengths: hard drive works fine via USB

Weakness: Scammy rebates

Hard drive is fast enough, doesn't get too hot, price was good, but have to jump through hoops to get rebate, then rebate never comes. So just expect to pay the price listed, don't count on the everpresent rebates.

Solid choice...

Strengths: Plug and play, relatively quiet.

Weakness: Runs hot.

The price was right and this drive hasn't given any problems yet. I worry that it seems to run hot, but after 3 months of continuous use without problems, I don't expect any issues. I have not used the SATA interface but the USB interface works as described and transfer is high-speed. This is second such Cavalry drive I've purchased and not had a problem with. Seems to be solid stuff.

Cavalry Caxm37500 External 500GB Hard Drive

Strengths: Good performance, quiet

Weakness: It gets a little too hot.

I bought this drive last month and have used it to transfer a lot of data... and it is amazingly fast just using the USB 2.0. I have yet to use the eSATA but anticipate it being even faster. It is easily recognized by Windows XP and takes seconds before you are able to transfer data. I bought this to backup important data and use it for my external ProTools Drive for Music recording. Hands down,...
