WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Fast, quiet, reliable, easy to install. Comes for both molex and SATA power.

Weakness: no

I bought the bare drive and download all programs from Wester Digital site. Installation ran smooth and the copy of my old drive to the new one was excellent, that's a great addition.

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Great price, under .60 a GiG, slight performance gain for a relativly low cost.

Weakness: Runs a little hotter than my IDE drives.

For the extra performance gain that I did see in some applications it was an incredibly good investment. It was easy to set up and install. It formatted exceptionally quick. I do not hear the noise that others are talking about, mine runs pretty quiet.

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: very fast

Weakness: none

I love that this hard drive has a 8mg cache. I am using this to record digital music with and bought an external oxford 911 encosure for it. It is working great!

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: very quiet

Weakness: SATA connector, power connector

Over the years I have used multiple IBM, Maxtor, Seagate and Western digital IDE/EIDE HDDs. This is my first SATA drive. I have always been pleased with WD HDDs Physical installation was typically easy. Connection to the power supply was somewhat annoying. There are 2 power in options: 1) the SATA power supply 2) the standard 4 pin molex connector. The molex connector had a block-off plate which...

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Easy setup and data migration from current hard drive.

Weakness: Makes a sound whenever I turn on and off my computer

This is a really good drive that is easy to set up. I got the drive OEM (without any literature or installation disks) from newegg. I downloaded the Data Lifeguard software windows edition and it was really easy to transfer all my files from my current parallel ATA hard drive. I plan on buying another drive so I can Raid 0 them together. The only bad part is I hear a buzzing sound whenever I turn...

Not so well...

Strengths: good price for the service and space... others say its good to

Weakness: not quite cutting it

i got my drive in the mail yesterday and hooked it up... not detected. i played around with bios settings, swapped cables out, etc... still no go. took it to a computer shop to have them try it out... low and behold, the drive was dead. somewhere in the loop some crappy QA was done, and this drive slipped out malfunctioning.

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Western Digital is the best

Weakness: SATA - do I really need it yet?

I got this because I figured I might need SATA sometime. It turns out I probably will never use it and should have for the money gotten a little bit bigger IDE hard drive. But the small cables are nice and the drive is perfect, I've yet to have a WD go bad on me and I've run several for years non-stop. Highly recommended.

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: good, fast hard drive

This hard drive is a good, fast, reliable hard drive in my opinion. I've had Western Digital hard drive's in the past, and for the most part I have always been pleased.

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Its a WD

Weakness: SATA technology is not perfect yet. I sugest going with IDE if you can. I seeen no preformance gain on my benchmarks.

Ordered this by a mistake trying to order an IDE drive. But ended up using it after a WD 160 SATA (wow the noise that comes out of that one) did some funny stuff. So I currently have it in there incase the 160 dies I don't loose everything. Just the stuff I liked...

WD 80GB 2.5" Hard Drive

Strengths: Fast data transfer, smooth and quiet running

Weakness: Messed up with partition, the letter of Local drive C is always messed up to another drive letter when I tried to format it before installing Window.

The Caviar WD800JD 80GB Hard Drive (Serial ATA-150, 7200 RPM, 8MB) that I have now is the second one. It is running very good and fast, I’d like to use it to install Window in it itself rather than other type of disks.
