Opteron 175 Pros, Cons, and general information.Strengths: Decent power for the price, Unlocked cores make overclocking easier, Hyper Threading Technology makes it even MORE effective, integrated DDR SDRAM controller, lower-power processor, effecient, durable Weakness: Price, not for the casual pc builder, Socket 939, no support for DDR2 Opteron's are very strong, efficient, and durable processors. Opteron's are cut from the same silicon wafers as AMD's FX series so they are designed to last. They are designed for server applications having a built in memory controller and Hyper Threading, although they also make Excellent processors for the PC enthusiast. The downside is that they are socket 939 and with the release of AMD's new...

Great Dual Core Processor at a Great PriceStrengths: Dual core, low temps, great at multitasking Weakness: Lack of multi threaded program support. I bought this processor as an upgrade over my AMD 64 3700+. My 3700+, while still fast, was not able to keep up with my evolving needs. I mostly use my system for gaming and watching/recording HDTV. One the single core setup, every time I tried to multitask while recording HDTV content, the video and audio would skip. It would skip until whatever I was loading finished loading. At times the...

AMD Opteron 175 Dual Core ProcessorStrengths: It is a great functioning processor. It is a durable processor. Weakness: It is mainly for use in server. So it would not work for someone trying to build their own pc. Opteron is a great processor. AMD made a great product for the people that have their own servers. It is a durable and efficient processor. The price is also pretty great for the functions of the processor.

Great Processor
Strengths: Speed Ease of installation Rock-stable
Weakness: None so far
I've purchased this processor for the use in my home system (primarily for image and video editing). Had absolutely not problems installing it into my Socket 939 MSI Neo-2 Platinum MoBo, with 3 GB of Corsair Value RAM. No problems with installation - just make sure that your computer is identified as "ACPI uniprocessor PC" in Windows Device Manager. Even though I have not overclocked this...
