Strengths: Highly integrated Office tools help transfering data and graphics between programs very simple. It's almost necessary for people who do presentation or training on a regular basis.
Weaknesses: Microsoft's monopoly makes it quite expensive to obtain, unless your company is willing to pay for it of course.
Summary: For most everyday users, there's not much difference between Office 2003 and Office XP, or even Office 2000. The reasons that I got it is because it's the most recent Office release and it's compatible with Windows XP.

I did ran into a bug during installation of the Business Contact Manager. It complained about "not enough space in drive C:" due to the installer miscalculating the available disk space. While the solution provided by Microsoft's support site doesn't work, I did find a solution from Gateway's support site. I just need to add ~107MB of data onto my hard disk and everything went smoothly.

Strengths: Microsoft Office is a defacto standard. This version of that product has all the programs and features.
Weaknesses: Some features complicated to use. It takes some time to become fluent in the use of these programs. Word has some automatic formatting features that kick in unexpectedly, requiring the user to adapt.
Summary: Microsoft Office is the software used at both my job and the college that I sometimes attend, so this is the software that is most useful to me. It installed onto my Windows XP machine with no problems at all, and it works fine.

Strengths: Very good integration of all Office programs make transfering data and graphics between programs very easy.
Weaknesses: Continued support of the Microsoft monopoly.
Summary: The installation went smoothly and so far there have been no operational problems.

Although this product is quite expensive, the price that I found via PriceGrabber.com could not be beat.

3 Star ReviewIf you don't REALLY need the 2003 version, don't b ...
Strengths: Seeing your money go to Microsoft makes you feel warm and tingly inside.
Weaknesses: There is a learning curve required for this upgrade. It is NOT user-friendly. Help and tutorials are pathetic. Plan on getting a book. Most new features apply only to networks and developers.
Summary: If you don't REALLY need the 2003 version, don't bother. Use your older, familiar versionUnless this is your first copy, then you might as well start here. If you do use 2003 (or XP), you really will need a book or two that explains the new version. And don't count on more productivity unless you are a serious pro on a network. Home and small business users have not gotten much help.

Strengths: Installation was automatic and went without a hitch.
Weaknesses: The installed applications require significant file storage overhead.
Summary: The application suite provides great functionality and configurability. Suggest getting usefull free downloads from MS for each individual module Now I can easily work remotely on all MS applications and transfer files back and forth to the office.

Strengths: Easy installation and updates, EXCELLENT on-line training available at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/default.aspx. Basic features easy to use.
Weaknesses: Sometimes "helpful" features turned on by default can clog the screen
Summary: MS Office is the standard for good reason. It is so flexible and easy to use the basic features, yet has a depth of capabilities unmatched anywhere. The available on-line training and automatic updates are great features.

Strengths: Powerful, easy to use.
Weaknesses: Cartoon characters interfere with help system.
Summary: As much as I dislike monopolies, I have to say that Gates's kids have created an extremely powerful, easy to use package here. HOWEVER, StarOffice offers virtually the same power and ease of use.

I have always found the silly help cartoon characters to literally be a waste of time, slowing rather than expediting obtaining help. Yes, I know how to turn them off. They STILL appear (e.g., when trying to obtain help on a function in Excel).

Strengths: Superfast setup with no apparent incompatibility.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2004-10-11 23:11:42 This product installed without a hitch. I was able to get online and perform all the updates without any evidence of incompatibility. The programs functions like the retailed product I purchased for my desktop.

Strengths: Outlook preview panel is a big improvement. Also the spam filter works well. Excel is as great as ever.
Weaknesses: Word still acts as if it knows what you want better than you do. Access overdoes the security and makes it a pain. The new upload feature in FrontPage is awful.
Summary: Compared to previous versions, overall this is not too bad. I don't use PowerPoint and I haven't seen any difference in Publisher. If you are buying Office, I don't see any reason NOT to buy this version. But if you already have Office 2000 or 2002, there is not really any great reason to upgrade, except for Outlook.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Useful and great. Not very easy to understand. Installation was hard and the user guide really didn't help. Great for offices but bad for home or PC Gamers.

Strengths: It is not a huge improvement over Office 2000, more of an evolution than a revolution. The way comments are handled is far superior than in the past.
Weaknesses: Image handling is still the weakest link in the product. Does not follow the CUA standards for keyboard shortcuts.
Summary: I have never thought that this product was inherently better than competing products such as WordPerfect. In fact, the only reason I own it is I am forced to by my client base. MicroSoft got all of us to "drink the koolaid" several years ago with outlandishly low prices. MicroSoft Office was also included with many new systems for free. In essence just like they always do, MicroSoft bought the market. This version is very stable and has some nice features. Unfortunately you have to install MicroSoft Outhouse I mean Outlook in order to get the full advantage of the suite.

Strengths: GOOD SOFTWARE OFFERS EVERYTHING I NEED
Weaknesses: MICROSOFT PRODUCTS ARE JUST TOO EXPENSIVE!
Summary: I CURRENTLY USE OFFICE 2002. I ASSUMED 2003 IS BETTER. I CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE POWERPOINT AND ACCESS. WITH 2003 IT COMES WITH EVERYTHING. EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT USE EXCEL AT THIS TIME, I LIKE TO HAVE ALL OF THESE SOFTWARES ON HAND!

Strengths: Easy to setup and start using.
Weaknesses: A lot of info to learn, but so is life.
Summary: I do not really know what to say about MS Office Pro 2003 except that I have always used MS software and do not have any experience with any other compairable software.

Having stated that, the only thing I can say is I like it.

Strengths: Easy install, only used Word and Excel thus far, but works great
Weaknesses: Price, although I found a deal on EBay
Summary: Haven't yet had the chance to explore all the applications, but I do like the side bar that pops up for the thesaurus. I must admit, I don't see a huge improvement over Office 2002, or even my "ancient" 2000 version. I was building a new computer and figured I'd put the latest version on it.
