Excellent Product

Strengths: All metal. Superfast 7200 RPM drive.

Weakness: Could not find any weaknesses.

Great suplemental backup system. Super-fast. Flawless .Users can set up the Retrospect backup software to backup files on a daily, weekly, monthly, or anything-in-between basis. In addition they can set up Retrospect to backup with the push of a button. When the button is pushed, Retrospect quietly goes into action backing up modified files (in incremental mode) without using up much system resources. There isn't much further to say about how it works because the device makes it so simple. Plug in the drive, load the software, and forget about backing up!

Good External Hard Drive

Strengths: Plenty of space; Has 8mb cache as opposed to a 2mb cache, which some other Maxtor products have; Backup software works nicely.

Weakness: Kind of bulky, but not too heavy to transport.

While I've only had the drive for a few days now, it's worked wonders for me in cleaning up my hard drive. I've moved tons of stuff on to the drive, including my 15GB mp3 collection, so I could clean up my internal drive, as it only holds 40 GB. The transfer wasn't that bad, although 15GB is a lot of data to send over any connection - USB or Firewire. The backup feature is nice as well as aside from my music collection, I've backed up critical files that I need that I change pretty frequently. Only drawback is its size, but as was mentioned in a different review, it's sort of expected - but I don't intend on transporting this drive everywhere, so it's not much of a bother. If you do intend on transporting, I'd recommend a carrying case for it - Maxtor actually sells one, and it makes transporting the drive easier and safer as it's nicely padded.

A Quality External Hard Drive

Strengths: Easy to work with, speedy operation with a 7200rpm/8MB cache drive inside, quiet and cool, build quality, nice backup software included

Weakness: A bit heavy & bulky, but that is expected from a quality product like this (no cheap material used)

This drive is totally plug and play with any Windows XP system. The one-button backup feature is a bliss for frequent backup routine or any emergency backup task. The included Dantz Retrospect backup software allows the user to perform one-touch backup operation and the hard drive will do all the work - it keeps track of the data changes since last backup and only adds the changed/new data to the archives (i.e. "incremental" backup.) This feature greatly reduces the needed time and space for each backup. Later, when the user wants to restore the system, he can choose any historial backup point providing that the drive hasn't run out of space and overwritten that backup point - the drive self-manages its storage space and deletes older backup points as the drive fills up. Very smart.

For regular users who use external hard drives for data storage purpose, this drive is a fast & quiet runner. It includes a nice DriveLock feature, too. The DriveLock feature allows the drive owner to set up a password to protect the contents of the drive, keeping data safe from unauthorized users. The drive is automatically locked once the computer is shut down or the drive is removed from the system. This would be a good security option for business users.

Review of Maxtor 100 GB Hard Drive

Strengths: This hard drive was super easy to install and set up. I began a full backup of my C: disk literally within minutes. It has great features such as auto backup; you just leave it plugged in.

Weakness: None that I can see.

Never having used an external hd before, I was a bit apprehensive as I began to install it. My fears were shortlived. The drive installed effortlessly. As soon as I plugged the USB cable in, Windows recognized it right away, and I was able to begin the backup instantly. I do not know of how much better a product can be. This Maxtor drive is exactly as it is advertised to be - one touch.

Back up your system with no hassle.

Strengths: Easy to use.

Weakness: A little bit bulky as expected.

Plug in and push the button. You are all set. I leave it at home most of the time. If you need to carry it every day, get a notebook HD with a 2.5" external enclosure.

Maxtor 100GB External HDD

Strengths: Quite, solid, nice alum enclosure

Weakness: Best to use upright, laying on side resultes in a hot side. Backup software is too resourse intense

This baby is quiet, runs cool. The alum enclosure is solid and vents the drive good enogh to keep it cool all day

The backup software has a big footprint and uses a lot of processing power. I just wiped it clean and use Nortons Ghost for backups on the fly. The one touch is fine if you don't have a lot of high GB video, otherwise it usually crashes for me.

Solid Drive

Strengths: Solid construction, easy to use, cheap, fast

Weakness: Heavy (not portable), Maxtor warranty & quality

Overall I'm very happy with this drive I bought today. It works well right out of the box and is easy to use to back things up. From past experience I'm a little weary of the Maxtor brand due to a shorter warranty, but the quality of this model seems to be very good.

Maxtor OneTouch II Drive 100GB

Strengths: Excellent performance, easy backup, nice case.

Weakness: Gets a little warm.

Maxtor's external hard drive is easy to install (USB2.0). It backs up effortlessly by pressing a button on the front of the drive. Excellent construction, fast, and quality you expect with the Maxtor brand.
