Great Recorder OverallStrengths: Versitility (can be hooked up to multiple devices, multi-disk format, many input & output), easy navigation, DivX compatible, up-conversion, flexible recording, Panasonic's great product support Weakness: The unit has to be turned off for scheduled recordings to start, not very willing to give up on and eject damaged disks. I am quite satisfied with this product. It comes with a lot of features that I am still discovering new things after 2 months. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Good Recorder with BenefitsStrengths: Viera works with Panasonic Viera TV. Has flexible recording allowing recording to fit exactly on a disk. Allows "search" to scan the disk. Weakness: Upconversion only available with DVD-RAM disk. Output is standard definition. Output is not "near HD" quality, but standard definition. Upconversion is SD but allows full widescrean only with DVD-RAM disk, all others are 4:3 and leave picture smaller or with black edges on the screen. An upconversion recorder is not usefull with a standard 4:3 HD or SD TV. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Panasonic DVD RecorderStrengths: Small, upconverts, records dvds, Divx compatible, hdmi output Weakness: bit slow Has tv tuner built-in so can be used with tv that lack tuners. Is capable of playing dvd with ease. As far as recording going, I have not gotten a chance to test that yet. Has many inputs like usb and card reader. Upconverting looks really good with a big screen tv. 83% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great DVD PlayerStrengths: up converting Weakness: Does not play all region discs it has been great so far to use this player and the picture quality is great. I like the usb feature verymuch. usually it takes longer time to read a disc. i am using it for my 1080p LCD HD TV. the upconverting is excellent and i can see the near blue ray quality. i would definitely recommend this to a friend. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Horible ProductStrengths: Cant think of any Weakness: Everything Purchased in Feb. 2008. It comes with a solid 1 year manufacturing warranty. It broke in March of 2009. Need I say more. I paid 300 dollars for this product. They wanted 180 more to repair it. Dont waste your money on any Pansonic product. This is not the first time I have had issues with this company. Pay the extra and get a Sony. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great Recorder
Strengths: Versatility (can be hooked up to multiple devices, multi-disk format, many input & output), easy navigation, DivX compatible, up-conversion, flexible recording, Panasonic's great product support
Weakness: The unit has to be turned off for scheduled recordings to start, not very willing to give up on and eject damaged disks.
I am quite satisfied with this product. It comes with a lot of features that I am still discovering new things after 2 months.
This is a very versatile recorder that not only plays and records on all disk format I can find at electronic stores but also comes with many input and out put on the front and back of the recorder. This made me cast the idea that DVD recorders are for recording TV shows and watching DVDs on TV. I have been using it a lot for saving the contents of my digital camera, DV cam, USB flash memory, and SD cards on DVD disks, in addition to saving recordings in old VHS tapes and recordings in my DVR with a built-in hard drive (*this unit does not take VHS tapes but I have my VCR hooked up to this unit), and it is very easy to do so. The recorder has enough input slots that I leave all these devices hooked up and all I have to do is change the input on the remote before recording. It's also a "BIG" plus that I can edit out commercials right on this unit, before finalizing the disk.
The user manual is easy to understand. Though I am not technically savvy at all, I can figure out most of the things by myself, and when I don't feel like reading the manual, Panasonic patiently answers over the phone my (probably retarded) questions without using very technical terms, until I am satisfied. And their technical support does speak American English!
One thing that I was not aware of before purchasing this unit was that the unit has to be turned off in order for scheduled recordings to kick in. Something to be careful about before leaving home. But like I said, this shouldn't be a big problem if you have a DVR in addition. I often let my DVR record shows and video capture from my DVR to disks after coming home.
For me, the biggest drawback of this product is the fact that it does not easily eject damaged disks. The recorder tries hard and goes into diagnostic mode without giving you a chance to eject it. Once it happens you have to wait for a minute or two.
It'd be great if it could record Blu-ray disks, but I know that is too much to ask for the price at this point. :p
Overall, I am very happy with this product because of its versatility and "great" product support I get and have recommended it to my friend. Though this may be slightly more expensive than some other recorders, I can easily overlook that. Money well spent! :D
