Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Good transfer rate with 8MB cache.

Weakness: Installed MaxBlast from CD, but should have read the readme first for XP. Make the diskette and you'll be OK.

This is my third (still running) Maxtor drive. Much better than the other HD mfg I had. 20% increase in transfer rate (from 2MB to 8MB cache) helps with video aps.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Fast access times; excellent storage space

Weakness: None that I've found so far.

So far this has been a wonderful hard drive. I have plenty of memory space for all of my applications and I've had no hang ups or bogging down of the drive when using several applications at once.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: 8MB Cache, large capacity

Weakness: None

I used to use Windows 98SE, on a 16GB hard drive. When I upgraded to this 120GB hard drive, and 8MB of cache, i noticed that my system booted up about 3 times as fast. This drive also is very fast because of the 8MB cache, and 120GB is more than enough to hold your data. I strongly recommend this product from Maxtor.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Great access time espec. for large audio and video files.

Weakness: A little noisy

I use this drive to store multi-media files so fast access times was critical and so far I must say I have not been disappointed. Compared to my older Maxtor drive this one is 'zippy'!
Good price and now that Maxtor is offering a 3 yr warranty, no need to look elsewhere.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Weakness: Lifespan

While the drive worked, it performed just fine. But it did not last very long.
The first died after about a month of use, the replacement died in about a week. Sending off for another warranty replacement now.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: It works ok, its pretty fast.

Weakness: None that I can see at this time.

This drive is good for the price, I don't have any problems with it at all. It is faster than most of the drive i have come across in the past.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Great price. In the past my Maxtor drives have been great.

Weakness: This one is toast. I've tried installing 3 different OSs and I keep getting bad blocks. Will have to return.

I think that in general Maxtor makes good drives. My past experience with them would suggest that. And maybe this model is in general good too, but the one I got seems to be a dud. I'll have to return it, and hope the next one is better. (I will update this then.) The current prices put it at less than a dollar per GB, so that is very nice.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Less expensive (with manufacture's rebate) than most others in the same class.

Weakness: none, yet.

Works well for my back -up machine. Cannot find anything wrong with it. Good deal. Good product. I would definitely buy again. Oh, and the manufacture's rebate came quickly with no hassles.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: This hard drive is VERY QUIET compared to other 120 GB hard drives i have used. Very stable and reliable. Great price for so much space. The 8 mb cache gives it a great speed.

Weakness: none so far...

Its a very stable hard drive and is SOOOOOO quiet. Other hard drives i have had have been very noisy when they were accessed. The top quality in my mind would have to be how much bang you get for your buck.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Quiet, durable, dependable, cheap...

Weakness: Absolutely none

This is my second Maxtor drive, had a 60 GB one for two years, still chuggin' along, I've already put 90 GB on this one, continuous access for nearly a week, no issues, low heat output, nice and quiet, and I can launch files faster off of this one, even though they're both UDMA133. Absolutely no complaints, got this via Zipzoomfly, got free 2nd day shipping, and it came right on time. Anyone that has problems with Maxtor drives must be doing something very wrong.... I'm definitely a loyal Maxtor user now - Best prices, very dependable product, will definitely purchase again when I run out of HD space...hehe....

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: This drive is very fast and silent. Inexpensive. The SATA interface is a pleasure. Maxtor website has downloadable drivers, utilities and docs, which is nice if you buy OEM.

Weakness: None. Best drive I've ever owned.

Used this drive two months ago when building my new system based on an Intel P875PBZ motherboard and Pentium IV 3.E GHz Prescott chip.

Some people have mentioned that it was difficult to install WinXP on a SATA drive, but everything worked out flawlessly for me. I suppose it may depend on the particular motherboard and it’s BIOS. Installation procedure for me was no different that a regular ATA drive with Intel’s P875PBZ board and latest BIOS update. Installed the board, peripherals and drive (no jumpers to worry about and a nice thin SATA cable instead of those clumsy ATA ribbon cables). Powered up the system. Upgraded the motherboard BIOS. Booted up on WinXP CD, formatted the disk using XP’s setup and installed XP. And all was well.

Can’t say enough about this drive. I think this drive’s performance is superb. It is fast and extremely quiet. I have a quiet system with silent fans, case, etc and I still can’t hear the drive.

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Fast performance, cheap price

Weakness: Utterly, totally unreliable.

I purchased one 6Y120P0 drive last month and installed it. It was great for about a week, fastest drive I've ever benched. But after 168 hours, it just died. I had to switch back to the 20gb drive that I had been using for the last 3 years. I would probably not buy another Maxtor drive again after this experience.
