Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40 GB Internal Hard Drive -...Strengths: Fast and quiet. Weakness: Reliability has become a MAJOR concern. 2 new 40GB Maxtor DiamondMax drives. 1 failed integrity check. 2nd indicated "format failure" upon 100% completion of format to NTFS during WinXP Pro install (new Intel D865GBF MB). Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40 GB Internal Hard Drive -...Strengths: price and availability Weakness: 1 out of 5 drives fails within 1 month I have purchased ove 30 of these drives and would have to say 20 percent of the drives have failed after 1 month. The bios can either not find them, they appear but have no OS, or they develop bad sectors for no reason. I would not recommend this drive to anyone. GOT 1 REPLACEDMENT BACK WITH IN 3 DAYS IT WAS REFURBISHED & D.O.A. DO NOT BUY THESE....... EVER. THESE ARE THE WORST DRIVES...........EVER!!!!!! 71% of readers found this review helpful. Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40 GB Internal Hard Drive -...Strengths: Extremely Quiet, Smaller Form Factor, Great Performance Weakness: None to speak of. Our company purchased 40 of these hard drives in the past 3-4 months. So far, 3 have failed. We are extremely please with the high performance and quiet operation. These drives also do not get very hot. Suprising for the small form factor they displace. I would chalk the previous review up to a bad shipment of drives at the time of purchase. MAXTOR HARD DRIVESStrengths: CHEAP Weakness: TERRIBLE QUALITY MANY RESELLERS POSTING "NEW" WHEN PRODUCT IS ACTUALLY USED.THREE DIFFERENT BATCHES FROM 3 DIFFERENT INTERNET SELLERS HAD BAD SECTORS AND UNUSABLE. 2 drives left working in a 4 drive array which meant all the data was lost and time spent rebuilding. in general
Maxtor's have been unreliable. I do not recommend this
product.
