Not bad

Strengths: Mac version imports from Windows files, integrates with Address Book

Weakness: Extra steps

Not a bad product. Installs very easily on a Mac. Looks almost identical to the PC version I used last year. The integration with Address Book surprised me and was a nice touch. (It asked me if I wanted to add my birthday, found in my W-2, to my profile in the Address Book.)

There are a few too many extra steps in some parts of the interview. For example, they might say "Next we'll take you through blah blah blah" and make you click next. They could just get right to the interview question.

Recommended product, though I would like to see it automatically compare a Roth vs Traditional IRA for you and make a suggestion on which to get.

TaxCut Premium Federal + State + E-file (full...

Strengths: User friendly, easy to install, and saves for next year

Weakness: You can only efile for one user and only one state

I like this software after complications with other tax software products. It would be nice if you lived in two states in one year you could use this software and/or if you could spend a few extra dollars to efile another member of your household. Fast, simple, and easy to use.

I won't buy it again

Strengths: none

Weakness: the info is not clear

I have used turbotax in the past and it is much better. I find it difficult to move through this program or find what I am looking for. It just doesn't work smoothly and the result is that I still haven't finished my taxes. My frustration mounts every time I open this program. In addition, every comment seems to come with a commercial for another of their products.

Loyal user who almost didn't buy it this year

Strengths: Imports data from prior year (even from TurboTax), can print return to PDF

Weakness: Keeps getting more expensive, especially to e-file

I have used TaxCut for as long as I can remember and this year's version is a natural progression from prior years. The interface has changed slightly, but there is no real learning curve for previous users. A nice feature is the ability to print your returns to a PDF file. This way, you can keep and access an electronic copy of your return without having to keep the old software around. Of course, you could accomplish the same thing by downloading one of the free PDF writers (eg CutePDF). In my opinion, all tax software should do pretty much the same thing - so my main criteria is price. While it is a little cheaper than TurboTax, the price has been creeping up each year as rebates that had been offered in prior years have been eliminated (e.g. e-filing). I was not going to e-file this year but Office Depot had a great deal (might have been a price mistake) back in January. Had I not found the deal, I would have considered TaxAct. Also note, the online version of TaxCut Federal + State + E-file is available for around $30 through various partners (e.g. Amex, Bank of America).

Best Tax Software

Strengths: Easy to use, all in one package, costs less than tax professional

Weakness: Price for software has risen over last few years, Have to keep checking for updates of forms

TaxCut 2007 Premium Federal and State (+ E-File) is one of the best software based tax preparation software available to the consumer. The software is easy to install and use with a friendly user interface. I am able to complete my tax returns without shuffling through a hundred pieces of paper. It makes tax preparation simpler. A great feature is the import from last year's return function. With this, I don't have to input a lot of information onto the new form. The software does not come complete out of the box. Most of the tax forms are far from complete, and require updates into at least February. I would recommend this software because it is the best software based tax solution for consumers.

Easy transfers data from TurboTax

Strengths: TaxCut imports and transfers data from TurboTax also.

Weakness: TaxCut Does Not Import W-2, 1098 and 1099 Data

TaxCut desktop will work well for anyone, except for those who have a substantial amount 1099 transactions since TaxCut does not download this data. If you want to use online tax software and you have a very basic return or you have been doing your own taxes for years, TaxCut Online will work. But, because of the hassles with finding answers on the support page, I do not recommend.

Best value for the money!

Strengths: Best value for the money ($60 from Amazon and got $10 rebate from TaxCut). Comes with eFile, so no hidden costs.

Weakness: Does Not Import W-2, 1098 and 1099 Data like the other guys. Well, not yet, but give them time!

I was a loyal TurboTax customer until last year. TaxCut has virtually the same features and functionality at a lower cost. Also, have not run into some of the installation issues I experienced with TurboTax in years past. TaxCut also comes with free access to an H&R Block tax advisor.

TaxCut Premium Federal 2007

Strengths: Easy, inexpensive, backed up by H&R Block

Weakness: Only import last years tax not prior year--it got confused with TaxCut 2003 (last time I used TaxCut)

This product worked quickly upon set up. Although it imported my 2003 return and labeled it 2006 which caused some other difficulties, it was very clear, and helpful. The mini movies that described some of the issues were very helpful. The corrections part was a little confusing but I managed and there was only 2 corrections needed. I wish I could have deleted the 2003 return but it seems too difficult and so I have to submit a signed form to accompany my e-file. I take the blame. Overall it was simple and straight forward.

This is my last year with TaxCut

Strengths: Price

Weakness: Cannot use on a non-internet computer. Schedule D errors. Weak interview.

I have used Taxcut ever since it was a Parsons product. But every year they have made it harder to use on a stand-alone non-internet computer. This year I found an error on how it handles schedule D capital gains. And I paid for but could not use the state product. The interview did not catch everything it should have. I am very disappointed, and when I called for help they did not care and told me to apply for the 60 day refund. Nice.

Excellent tax prep software.

Strengths: Consistent interface throughout iterations. Very helpful wizards to walk you through forms. CD automatically sent to you each year. Fast, efficient, thorough.

Weakness: Interface is a little behind the times.

I started using Taxcut about 5 years ago. I tried TurboTax, but I liked the wizards and walkthroughs more in Taxcut. Seemless import of tax info from year to year cuts down on entering repetitive data. Easy to make changes and navigate the interface. Seemless integration of state program and e-filing. Great product.

TaxCut Premium Federal + State + E-file (full...

Strengths: Easy to install. Cheaper than using a Tax Professional. Very user friendly. No SpyWare like some other products did a couple years ago.

Weakness: Prices have been going up gradually over the years. They also keep raising the e-file fees

I have been using TaxCut since the year they came out with it. Its cheaper than TurboTax and just as good. I have been very happy over the years with the software. It always seamlessly import my data from prior year's (it even imported from TurboTax years ago) files. It is very easy to use the software. Except the rising prices of the software and the e-file fees, I have no complaints against this product.

There you have it, taxman

Strengths: easy to use, imports tax data from previous year, includes one state and e-file

Weakness: non

This version of TaxCut includes one state download and one e-file (federal and state) for free. Additional e-filing will cost you. This year's program is as easy to use as 2006 version. You get video tips, a comprehensive help menu and one free call for "tax advice from an H&R Block tax professional".
I use this version of TaxCut since my filing includes home mortgage deduction and investments. If you donated items during the tax year, TaxCut will help you determine the fair market value.
Overall, I've used TaxCut for the last 5 years and have been happy with the value I get, compared to TurboTax (which I used the first 2 years). E-filing is the way to go, with faster access to the money I lent the government for free. With e-filing you can designate a checking account and the IRS will do an electronic deposit to your account. On average it takes about 1 month after filing.

Great product, Quick Service

Strengths: singnificant improvement in terms of usability - even compared to last year

Weakness: doesn't permit direct input to individual tax forms

TaxCut interview is much more smooth flowing compared to previous versions. It is definitely on par with TurboTax on most counts - to top it off, Block also offers a free consultation with one of their Tax Professionals - this could be huge bargain if you have unanswered questions.

Good, reliable software!

Strengths: Nice price for all in one package

Weakness: None

I have been using this program for the last 3 years, and it has worked flawlessly. I do both state and federal returns, and never have had any issues. It will question you about your specific tax situation, and come up with the best possible way of doing your return and all possible deductions. If you haven

TaxCut 2007 Premium Federal + Stae + E-file (Full...

Strengths: Ease of data entry and helpful videos.

Weakness: Some entries have to be duplicated. I would prefer that previously entered data be automatically inserted with the option to make changes on other forms if necessary.

For two years I have been using TaxCut Premium for preparing my tax returns. I find that anyone could follow the simple directions given and be successful in accurately preparing their tax returns. I like the fact that everything necessary is provided in the purchase price. I can prepare both my federal and state returns and then have the prepaid option of filing electronically. I wholeheartedly endorse H & R Block TaxCut products.

TaxCut Premium Fed + State + e-file

Strengths: Includes both State and Federal. E-file option is also included in this bundle. H&R Block Tax help, if needed.

Weakness: High price if you do not look for deals.

I have used both TaxCut and Turbo Tax. I have found both programs equal to the task. In fact I have used both programs during the same tax year to see if there was a difference in stated return. Both programs were basically spot on with a few dollars difference. This year I went with this bundle do inpart to a good offer at Office Depot. Normally I mail in my returns to save on efile costs, but this year I will be trying the efile feature for the first time. I am sure all will go well.

Taxcut, good tax filing tool

Strengths: Easy to use. Convenient with e-file built in.

Weakness: None so far.

I bought this product. To be honest, this is the first tax software I ever used. Last year I took my doc's to HR block office and they charge me $350 for the same stuff I can do myself. That's totally rip-off. With this software, I can basically do the same thing while paying much less. I couldn't be happier.

Taxcut does it again

Strengths: Step by Step walkthrough of filing taxes. Easily walks you through process when having an LLC

Weakness: Wish it was cheaper to do more than one state

I have been using Taxcut for several years now and I would highly recommend it to other users. H+R Block has designed a well thought out piece of software to walk you through filing your taxes, including having an LLC, deductions, investments, and education credits. Plus you get your one consultation with a tax professional. Highly recommended.

H&R Block TaxCut Premium Federal + State + e-file 2007

THE GOOD: H&R Block TaxCut adds help for those in the military; includes free audit support for electronic filing; adds weekend technical help to its free support; costs less than Intuits TurboTax Premier. THE BAD: TaxCut didnt detect some data entry errors; its interview could be confusing; some investment tools could be better. THE BOTTOM LINE: H&R Block TaxCut is relatively affordable and...
