Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Fast download, easy to use, compact size. Weakness: No inline remote. No uploads allowed. Eject button needs improving. LCD display could be a little larger so that song titles are more visible. Maximum volume is not very loud. Songs cannot be uploaded to computer from player. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Portable, good recording quality on SP mode, nice look, excellent as MD player (Walkman type) Weakness: As this Sony unit does not allow mp3 recording on SP mode, user must record their mp3 files on (poor sound quality) LP2 and LP4 modes. It is a pity that Sony decided not to allow the recording of mp3 files on the SP recording mode (higher sound quality). The LP2 and LP4 modes are acceptable only for headphone listening, but NOT to listen the MDs through a good and detailed Stereo equipment. After to use this unit for almost one year, definitively I do not recommend it to record mp3 files due to the Sony software limitations. Unless audio quality it is not important for you! 86% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Relatively cheap. Weakness: Utterly disappointed. No "plug-in power" for live recording, required for many small mics. No MP3-SP mode recording. PITA to hook up to same computer just to erase songs!Of minimal use to me. I bought this for three reasons: First, to use as a back-up sound recorder when I video weddings. However, Sony's own, and most other, stereo clip-on mics require plug-in power, that it doesn't have. Second, to use as backup music for those must-have songs when I DJ weddings...which I have on my hard drive in MP3 format, but can only put on the MD at slower speeds. Third, I have 7 computers, including two laptops...but I have to use only the one in my office to put on/take off songs, even if I'm done with them and only want them erased! Finally, even if I do find a mic I can use for those wedding soundtracks, I'll have to transfer the sound via analog inputs to my computer. Overall, I'm very disappointed in Sony's Big Brother attitude. We don't need this! 73% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Fast music transfer. Factory software works great, but Real Player & MD plugin is better for transfering music Weakness: Hinges are a little week. Mine is beginning to get some looseness there. Great all around musice player! Disc provides up to 5.5 hours of music on one disc at very good quality. I was looking to buy another one, but I guess Sony has discontinued this "Gold" model, as I only see refurbished ones for sale and I'd like a "new" one. May move up to the next higher model after this one is worn-out. It's still has a lot of life left.... 53% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: alot of music on one disk Weakness: if you upgraded your computer you are in big trouble setting it up! I travel alot and used to take the walkman with alot of cassetts on the plane. This unit is so small that I listen to one disk per ride. The sound is good and better if you use noise canceling headphones on a plane. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Worked great for about one year Weakness: Stopped recording. "Blankdisk" error. Check around thousands have the same problem This is the second one that I bought. My wife bought me the first one as a present. I loved it until I dropped it. I had to buy another one because of all the media that I had invested in. I have owned the second one about a year now. 44% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Love using RealOne to rip and transfer my music, makes it easy. Sound quality could be better but nonetheless rocks. Weakness: Sound could be deeper and richer. The headphones that come bundled with the model are crap. I purchased this model when it was first released last spring and forked out about $170 when it was all said and done, which wasn't bad at the time but I've seen this exact model at a Wal-Mart for $60. Good deal right? How come none of the other models closeout at 60 bucks? Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Best compression available......super battery life(forget the usual dc adaptors) Cheap(er) media Weakness: Sony's restrictive OpenMG software(qualified) Download time fast? NOT Lets compare Ap. to Ap.....really now this format is way better than MP3...I'm picky about sound quality, on mp3 the min acceptable was 128kbps, I was /am surprised at how well this unit reproduces at66kbps(lp4)..software is penal but you get 2 programs to do it in..but you need another to make it better (Nero 5.5).....downloads fast?,not when your converting also, 10min for typical CD. Remote can be purchased separately,if you have to have one, buy the '707' Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: Good sound quality at x2 recording speed. Tiny and light. Basic controls are easy to figure out. Weakness: x4 sound quality not that great. Advanced controls somewhat obscurely hidden in cascading menus. Cheap way to listen to MP3s on the go. Like the price of the additional discs. If I had the money and a Mac, I'd buy an iPod, but for now this works well. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/RecorderStrengths: fast download from PC Weakness: unable to import the audio other than export form the same PC, buggy software, NetMD Simple Burner do not support SP transfer mode netmd, this idea is out eventually, I longed for audio-morphing-and-export through USB, and I had been frustrated for export audio to MD using SPDIF out, because track-marking problem, and possibility other audio may interfere your "exporting", a single track may take several try ...and the netmd has come finally, but something is a little bad is...this is a basic model, that no recharagle batteries, no remote (this is okay, I use the remote supplied with D-EJ825), just supplies AC adaptor (better use this when exporting), a headphone (I don't use it), and software...the software is buggy, it hangs my laptop several times, there's a tip to prevent this: do not use mouse on installation, and do defrag before installation, you'll get success more easily, and there're 3 things I am not satisfactory: 1. MD simple burner don't support SP mode; 2. you still need your pc's line out or SPDIF out for recording from internet live radios; 3. you can't listen md on computer, nor import md audios other than exported from the same pc. tips: if you want a remote, opt one from planetminidisc.com for 60 bucks, it's nice Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Sony MZ-N505 Net MD Walkman Player/Recorder
Strengths: Super-FAst music transfer from PC to MD. MP3, WMA, WAV support. Long battery life. Media price low!! 1/10th MP3 players' memory cards price. Can keep up to 4 CDs in a single disk (less than $2)
Weakness: Can't transfer back music to your PC (I bet they'll remove this in a short time) No support for linux... (there's an open project workin on this right now)
I really love it... I'm a MD owner for 4 years now. I had 1st a Sharp and then a Sony MZR700, and my complain was always the same... no connection to PC. Now they did it... and it rocks... MP3 players will die unless they do a real important price drop!
If you're considering it, its a hot buy!! don't miss it.
