Does not work well with Vista
Strengths: Relatively easy to learn, and easy to use for basic accounting and reporting.
Weaknesses: Multiple problems running QB in Windows Vista; the problems are worse under Vista 64-bit. QB has a built-in PDF creator that causes printing problems and application failures.
Summary: QB is advertised as a Vista ready product; this is a bit of a stretch. I suggest reading the user forums. As noted simply trying to print a report can cause QB to crash. You need to use Task Manager to kill the application. Intuit provided a "fix." However certain step must be repeat each time QB is used (deleting the QB PDF creator from the printer list.) It has a decent range of standard reports that can be tweaked (time periods, accounts, clients, etc.). Creating custom reports is not trivial which is why there are so many firms providing QB help (much more expensive than the software). The file import functions supports .iif files (Intuit Import File). These are essential tab delimited file provided by some banks. The iif files are unable to recognize existing vendors, and other key information. Expect to spend time cleaning up data after an .iif import. I've been using QB since 2003; this is the most unstable version. Maybe the problems are Vista related, but it has been a couple of years since Vista hit the market. Intuit really doesn't have any excuse for not working well on Vista 32-bit or the increasingly popular 64-bit.

Strengths: very easy to use
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I have used the trial version for few days and I noticed how much time I saved myself with using this software. I have my own business and dealing with the finance aspect is the least favorite part,so for me, this software works perfectly.

An OK product, horrible tech support
Strengths: De facto standard accounting software
Weaknesses: * Price
* The old glitches and functionality limitations seem to migrate from one version to another without ever being fixed.
Summary: I purchased this software after my academic version of QuickBooks Pro 2007 ran out of 3 allotted activations. The very "gotcha" practice of selling the software that relies on activations without clearly stating the number of activations allowed right on the box is unethical, but with competitors consistently delivering immature products, Intuit seems to get away with its inferior business practices. The same is true for the company's support and product upgrade philosophy. I wonder how long this business model will work. This is an OK product, but if you are using version 2007 or 2006, do not bother spending money for an upgrade, unless you too were unfortunate enough to exceed your activation count.

Not so easy to se
Strengths: powerful tool, lots of features.
Weaknesses: not always intuitive to use, not the best user interface.
Summary: Quickbooks has a lot of features for my business, and I will not use most of them. I am not an accountant but I needed Quickbooks for my small business. I had to read a couple of tutorials before I could start using this powerful tool.

Strengths: Allows you to organize all your financial records in one place.
Weaknesses: Eventhough the layout is better then in previous versions, its still someowhat confusing to use.
Summary: Intuit Quickbook Pro 2008 is a must have for any business or person looking to organize their finances. Quickbooks is probably the most well known financial software program out on the market today. Their software covers many fields of businesses and there is alot of powerful features to this program. The software is backward compatible so if you have an older version of the program there should be no problems upgrading to this version.

Strengths: Simple interface, Pro has some great tools especially sending e-mails using Outlook now and sending invoices in .pdf format.
Weaknesses: Slow at start up - doesn't matter how small your file is. Database manager doesn't seem to work correctly in Vista.
Summary: People that have complained about the VISTA problems must have had the product before the updates. I'm using both 2007 pro and 2008 pro on VISTA Ultimate with out problems! 2008 pro is a great alternative to 2009 pro as Intuit is still trying to fix 2009 version! It is so bad that they have dropped their prices for the 2009 version to below $100 at most places. Makes it hard to find 2008 version for cheap... if you can find it!

Strengths: VERY EASY TRANSITION FROM PREVIOUS VERSION
QUICK INSTALL
Weaknesses: TOO MANY INTERRUPTIONS/POPUP WINDOWS OFFERING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON OTHER PRODUCTS/SERVICES.
Summary: I USE QUICKBOOKS PRO TO MANAGE THE FINANCES OF SEVERAL CLIENTS. FOR SMALL COMPANIES, THE DESKTOP VERSION IS MUCH MORE COST EFFECTIVE THAN USING QUICKBOOKS ONLINE, ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE MULTIPLE ENTITIES INVOLVED.

Strengths: Has a powerful Graphical User Interface that allows easy and quick access to various parts of the application.
Weaknesses: I haven't found any weakneses.
Summary: I have used an older version of Quickbooks, maybe 2004 and when I tried 2008, it looks completely different. They did a great job with making it easy to access everything without much difficulty finding it.

Sharing problems with Vista and Quick books pro 2008
Strengths: no problems with XP
Weaknesses: Problems with Vista
Summary: I am having sharing problems --we are always in multi user mode and since I switched to Vista about 2 months ago -- QB keeps asking me to switch to multi user mode while trying to log in when another employee is working in QB and it is in multi user mode -- not sure what to do any thoughts. When I was running XP -- I had no issues

Strengths: ease in following flow charts, entering sales and purchases, and tracking cash flow
Weaknesses: Slow to load up. Apparently companies created in or upgraded to Pro 2008 cannot be viewed by early versions of QuickBooks.
Summary: I was trained on QuickBooks Pro 2006. QuickBooks Pro 2008 is very similar. It really has a nice tutorial. The Startup and Quick Reference Guide I found very helpful as it contains info on installation, Setup, Key Concepts, Essential Tasks, and New Features. Each section in the little book are easy to find since each section has its own color tab. In the Essentials Tasks chapter, it has sections that cover: Setting Up Your Business, Money In, Money Out, Managing Your Business. At the end there also is a Frequently Asked Questions section and Index.

Strengths: Comprehensive bookkeeping
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: Once you get the hang of how Quickbooks works it's really easy to use and great for your business. It makes life a lot simpler and allows you to do a lot within the program. The main drawback is it is a memory hog, but that's about it.

Strengths: Easy to learn
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I've been a Quicken user for years. After recently forming my own S-Corp, I purchased Quickbooks for my small business. It has been very easy to learn. The tutorial and help menus are very helpful. Both Quicken and Quickbooks make it easy to send essential reports to my accountant.

Do NOT upgrade if you have 2006
Strengths: none
Weaknesses: I had to reinstall my entire program THREE times. It combines accounts and has caused me to lose a tremendous amount of time. This is a terrible upgrade and I never should have used it.
Summary: 2008-06-28 13:59:21 I subscribe to the yearly support with Quick Books. Each phone call the support persons told me that my version 2006 would no longer be supported and I HAD to upgrade to 2008. This was a misrepresentation.
I upgraded and have regretted ever since. I went from a perfectfully working program to a program that has caused me countless hours of lost productivity. The entire program had to be uninstalled and installed THREE times. It still combines one of my personal checking and savings accounts when I download to sycronize. This was a huge scam on Quick Books part and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PRODUCT. Beware!

Strengths: great accounting program for small businesses at an affordable price
Weaknesses: lacks tech support
Summary: Works better than other programs we've use in our accounting office. This program is incredibly simple, offers just about everything you could ask for in reporting, 3rd party integration, emailing, creating sales and purchase transactions.

Strengths: easy to use once you get the hang of it
Weaknesses: takes a while to learn all the features
Summary: Quickbooks Pro is a very advanced program and it took me a while to figure it out. It isn't as intuitive as other programs. But it also has greater features and once I figured it out it's great.
