Has all I needed
Strengths: Has anti spyware in it.
Weaknesses: Cannot co-exist with other software and do not have a customized installation, intallation is not pain free for some machine
Summary: 2008-01-27 19:18:25 I have been a user of Norton software for a long time. I loved early days Norton Antivirus in 90s. The previous software I used were the system work 2003 and NIS 2003. However, the NIS 2004 was really a disaster software and forced me give up on NIS and only use McAfee antivirus software which is free from our university. At the end of last year (2007), I have some good deals to get a NIS 2008 bundled with other two software I used a lot (Ghost and Partition magic). Therefore, I think why not try NIS again. I installed it carefully because the NIS2004 really messed up one of my machines. The installation went very smooth. However, it detect McAfee antivirus software on my machine and want me to remove it. The McAfee is required for our university machines. At beginning, I thought it should have some customized installation options to let me choose which software to install. I only want the firewall and the anti spyware part. However, there is no option. It just installs everything. So far, the software runs OK. I scanned the whole system and only caught one warning tracking cookie. It might take some of my system resources but I did not feel my machine slowing down (either my machine is too fast or I have already too many things running). However, when I try to install to another tablet PC at home ( I have three user license), I spent several days to finally get the LiveUpdate work. At least, I reboot 10 times to make it work. If you have a slow machine, you need to be very very patient. After installtion, the LiveUpdate kept failing, I tried all Norton website method to fix it. None of them work. From many on-line forum, quite a few user has similar problem. At the end, I need to uninstall all my free anti-spy software. Turn off the "protect norton product" option in the NIS2008 and manully download the virus definition and later the latest LiveUpdate to fix all the problems. And many times, you need to wait 10 to 30 mins to see results. Many times, those windows became "Not response" and you still need to have patient to wait. I guess this machine is too slow to handle NIS2008. After all these trouble, now the LiveUpdate in the NIS2008 seems work OK.

Strengths: All-in-one features
Weaknesses: Too much time for installation
Summary: Unlike the previous version, Norton has really worked on the personal firewall and scanning your computer. Although, its an all-in-one package, it takes a long time to install and slows down the system booting to a great extent. Run some registry cleaner after its installed and then reboot your system. The booting after this step is back to normal. Overall, a very great work by Symentac.

Strengths: reliable; does not slow down my system
Weaknesses: you have to download the Ad-On Pack for added features
Summary: This is the best release yet. 2007 slowed my system and this version does not. The interface is simple and easy to use. I don't know why they make you download the Ad-On Pack. Why not just include it in the CD? Otherwise I don't have any complaints.

Strengths: Good product, Easy to use, Easy to keep up to date
Weaknesses: Product Activation, Can be slow
Summary: I have been using Norton Internet Security since it came on the market. The product performs as advertised and is a comprehensive approach to online security. I have found that the speed and performance of the application is substantially faster if installed on a clean system. Overall this is a solid security application and one can tell that over the years the application, for the most part, continues to improve.

decent internet security software
Strengths: no strength
Weaknesses: still hang up the computer
Summary: This new version is not better than the old versions. Well, it can still remove some viruses and spywares but it does not work as efficiently as Kaspersky softwares. After installation, again you have to reboot the computer and your computer will be slower than normal.

Strengths: strong function
Weaknesses: price
Summary: I have been using norton internet security for a couple of years, and I choose it for many reasons. The installatio is fast. I feel really safe when I surf online but the boot process seems a bit slow after stalling Nortin Internet Security 2008 so that I can consider it as a four star product.

Strengths: Best NIS yet! Includes password manager & anti-spyware & firewall & anti-virus
Weaknesses: Expensive
Summary: I've been a Norton user for years, and will qualify this as one of their better releases. The versions prior to 2007 were resourse hogs, and gave cryptic so many warnings/errors that it became too difficult to use. Heck, the 2005 version would constantly have pop-ups about allowing a rule, you would say okay, yet it would come right back. That has not been an issue with the 2008 product. I uninstalled everything, and started from scratch. It's the safe thing to do. The only thing missing from this product is that it does not have any PC cleanup tools (registry cleanup, for example). As a bonus, they have added the equivalent of norton password manager, which used to be included in 2004 version, but then was spun off on it's own. Configuring my home network was easy, with the provided wizard. I noticed no slowdown in PC performance after the install. Highly recommended!

Strengths: The all in one package. Works on up to three pc's for a one year subscription.
Weaknesses: Price. IE7
Summary: This all in one solution provides firewall, anti virus, anti spyware, anti phishing, Network security monitoring, Automatic update for updating your software via the internet and more. I have been using Norton products for years and have never had any problems(knock on wood). After reading the reviews for the Norton 360, I opted to stick with the Norton Internet Security and upgraded to the 2008 version. I do recommend this software to all my family and friends. And it usually comes with a rebate.

Strengths: Easy to use, auto-updated by itself
Weaknesses: a little expensive
Summary: I have been a customer of Norton Internet Security products since 2004. I have had my share of problems with NIS including slowness, compatibility issues, blocked sites etc., but it has done an excellent job of protecting my computer. I recently purchased NIS 2008 and installed it on my laptop and computer. The laptop was an upgrade while desktop was a new install.

So-So anti-virus protection
Strengths: Catches about 60% of the viruses I threw at it
Weaknesses: Doesn't catch 40% of the viruses I threw at it
Summary: I think the title says it all - so-so anti-virus protection. As an experiment I threw about 30 different viruses on my machine. IS08 only caught about 17 of them. Dismal but the ones that it did catch - it cleaned the files. Also - easy on memory utilization.

Strengths: Easy installation, easy updates, and seamless workflow.
Weaknesses: none. Just the cost. But we got ours free with rebate!
Summary: There's a cool new feature called "Identity Safe". When you visit a password protected site and login, "Identity Safe" can store your credentials. With future logins, it will log you in by filling the user name and password on your behalf. This feature will save a little time and the hassle of remembering passwords. Trustworthy product. Would recommend!

A much better improved product
Strengths: Improved performance and a all in one solution.
Weaknesses: Slightly expensive.
Summary: This product has improved compared to its 07 predecessor. The boot time is significantly faster than with the 07 version. This has a password manager tool. Most people do not use it but is a good tool to have at your finger tips. This still loads up the machine a little bit. The price to performance is not great. Compared to Kaspersky ,NIS falls short. All in all a decent product.

Strengths: anti virus, firewall, anti spyware all in one. good database update.
Weaknesses: no major weakness
Summary: It's been almost 10 years since i first used Norton software. It was good until i switched to Mcafee and found it more compelling about two years ago. I'm trying Norton again because i need more anti-virus softwares on different computers and the fact it was on sale. The CD has Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Firewall all in one, same as Mcafee Internet Security. The database update was fast and simple. No major drawbacks for me, but time will prove. Norton is still one of the top anti-virus software providers on my list.

Strengths: Improved performance, speed, reliable, lot of features
Weaknesses: price, system resource need
Summary: I switched from Norton to McAfee a few years ago. The latest McAfee simply takes up too much system resources and speed. I was convinced by a co-worker to try the Norton product again. So I tried. The performance of the NIS 2008 has greatly improved from the previous versions. It still takes up quite a bit of system resources and disk space but the speed has significantly improved - better than McAfee. It has a lot of features which is more than I will actually use - but you never know. The price is still higher than others but it usually comes with rebates. So the final price is still good. I am glad that I have decided to try the Norton again.

Better
Strengths: not really any
Weaknesses: - major resource hog
Summary: - although a little better than the 2007 version, Norton Internet Security 2008 is still a resource hog. The price is kinda steep. You could probably do better by trying out a different security program.
