Great Product

Strengths: Size is great, features are nice and the customizability options are a great idea. Eraser is a neat feature along with the two buttons on the pen. Wireless and battery less mouse is great too.

Weakness: None so far, other than price and it would be nice if they put the pen stand on the side or top of the tablet.

Well price aside, if you really want and need a tablet, then I recommend this product. I’m a college student so the price was a factor but I’m very devoted in Design so I went with the Wacom anyway. I love the customization that you are allowed with, with the product. I've changed the programmable buttons for many different applications and even a few games which I play on my pc. Overall I'm very pleased with the tablet and I'm glad that I purchased it. The school said a tablet was needed and so after some research and using pricegrabber to find a reasonable price I went with this tablet eventhough they said all I need is a 6x8 one.

I was originally going to go for a smaller size because of obvious price reductions but I'm glad I went with the 9x12 size. I think the other sizes would be too small and limit my productivity and creations. The size also fits well in your lap and with comfort. I love the fact that the supplied USB cable has a good length to it so I can sit back and relax while I use the tablet and I don’t have to be right up close to the monitor. Freedom is one thing I enjoy with this product, the USB cord length, the ability to customize the buttons, on the pen, mouse, tablet itself and the scroll pads.

I was surprised about the eraser as well, I found out its function by mistake and I like the eraser. It saves from constantly remembering shortcut keys or having to click the tool icon in Photoshop or Flash. I also use this tablet while modeling in 3D. It is very convenient to have programmable buttons which you can bind actions to for specific programs. So I set buttons to switch from move, select, add modifier, add lighting, create a camera, box, sphere, all the operations in Maya and 3D Studio Max that I repeatedly do.

I was so thrilled with the programmable buttons on the tablet that I tried it out on Guild Wars. Now when you play you have to click on eight different skill boxes in order for your character to succeed. I bound each skill to the buttons using the game's shortcut keys of 1-8 with one starting at the left most buttons on the tablet and continuing over to the right most side. It helped me use skills faster and it organized my time and I have more fun playing the game. I also like the innovative mouse as the many buttons help me do many tasks in games and other programs that I use. I like how you can change the action on the mouse's buttons, the pen's buttons and the tablet's buttons.

This tablet feels very natural and I love the user friendliness of it. In aspect to the tablet being too big as stated by pengshi, you can change the settings so the monitor is half the tablet size in the control panel, therefore you don’t have to use the entire tablet if you don’t want to. The method of how to change what the buttons do and how to change the screen size was shown from the tutorials from the cd and it was a helpful video. The included software was also a nice touch and helpful. The control panel is very easy to understand and well put together, I had no problems navigating through it. I've heard many great things about Wacom and I'm glad I bought the Wacom Tablet along with getting the 9x12 size and with the added features I couldn’t be happier. Sorry for such a long review.

Awesome tablet

Strengths: Great sensitivity range, large surface area to work with, easy setup.

Weakness: Takes some getting used to looking at the monitor not your hand and where you are drawing.

The Wacom Intuos 9X12 tablet is an awesome purchase for anyone who does a lot of work in photoshop. Makes everything easier from simple touch ups on pictures, to full scale drawings, ill never attempt to use the mouse again.

Wacom Intuos3 Graphics Tablet

Strengths: Great shortcut buttons, Pressure sensitive paint brush, Eraser on the other end of the pen, easy on the hand.

Weakness: Size, pen holder, driver bugs.

First, the good:

This is a great investment for me. I have carpel tunnel syndrome and after I got this tablet, my hand feels a lot better. Since I am a web developer, this tool is also great

The two buttons on the pen takes some getting used to, but once you learn it, they are great. “Button A” act as “Right Click” and “button B” act as, believe it or not, “Double Click”. This might seem weird if you are used to double clicking a mouse button, but it makes perfect sense. Since single click is achieved by touching the pen tip to the tablet surface, you have to tap the pen tip really quick twice to double click. The repetitive action gets tiring after a while. Or, you can just press the button on the pen to do the same thing.

The tablet comes with pen brush plug-ins for Photoshop. With this plug-in installed, your pen becomes pressure sensitive. If you press lighter, the brush is thinner; if you press harder, the brush is thicker. What’s even better (and I discovered this by pure accident) is when you turn the pen upside down, the other end becomes the eraser tool!

There are shortcut buttons on the tablet that can launch applications with a single click. Nice touch.

The large size of this tablet surface is both good and bad. When you use the pen, the tablet surface is a duplicate of your monitor. The size means your hand motion is translated more accurately to the screen, but when you want to move your cursor from the lower left corner of the screen to the top right corner, you have to physically reach and move your arm across the 9x12 tablet surface.

Now, the bad:

The driver also seems to have some bugs that need to be worked out. If I take my pen away from the tablet for a while, then restart using it, the cursor seems to be non-responsive or disappear all together. Later, I found that if I use the mouse (that comes with the tablet) and shake it around really quickly, the cursor will re-appear. I hope they have a fix for this in future driver updates.

I find the stand alone pen holder easy to tip over, and often get in the way. Why can’t they make a built in pen holder?

There are two scrolling pads on the tablet that acts sort of like the scrolling third button on your mouse. However, the scrolling pad is hard and tricky to use. For example, on a PC, in order to scroll down a webpage in your browser, your cursor has to be located above the section you want to scroll. Since the scroll pad is located on the top of the tablet, and the cursor can move with the pen even if you pen is not touching the tablet. I often find myself accidentally move the cursor out of the section I want to scroll, thus rendering the scrolling pad useless. Maybe I’m not using it correctly, but I really don’t have the patience to figure it out. The up and down arrow on the keyboard seems much easier to use.

Overall, this is still great if you work in the graphic design field. If you are not into graphic design, but want something to ease the pain of carpel tunnel syndrome, then you should go for a smaller tablet.

Good tablet but still room for ergonomic...

Strengths: Performs well, comfortable pen, well designed pen holder, tablet buttons speeds up work and reduce need for keyboard keys

Weakness: Shiny coated surface of tablet's non-drawing area, mouse doesn't slide easily, touch strips too narrow for fingers

Shiny coated surface of tablet's non-drawing area causes too much friction with the your wrist's skin when drawing and moving your arm. Would have been better with a slightly textured surface to reduce surface contact with your skin so you can move with less resistance. The shiny coating is also made of a thick layer or clear glass-like plastic which optical mice have problems tracking on--which is another big problem for me.

-

The Wacom non-optical mouse's felt fabric bottom causes too much friction with tablet, and therefore doesn't slide around as easily. Wireless mouse works only when moved on top of tablet.

-

Touch strips are too narrow for your fingers and are recessed too deep for optimal comfort during use.

-

Nice upgrade to Wacom's Intuos tablet series, but there's still room for ergonomic improvement.
