No better monitor for the price.

Strengths: Very, very slim even for an LCD. Fast refresh rates. This baby screams with no lag issues and the DVI works flawlessly. Very bright. Had to tone it doen but it definately has radiant capabilities

Weakness: The stand. Can't adjust it. Leans downward too much for tall folk.

I paid 225 from ClubIT but knew Acer was a competent manufacturer so the cheap price didn't set me off. I have not been disappointed. It has freed up lots of space on my desk I need and my only worry was it would make my 3d game playing troublesome. I was wrong. Although it does lack the resolution of my old CRT, it is soo much brighter and bigger. This hard core gamer has not experienced any screen jitters or pixelation. No dead pixels out of the box either. Fired right up, windows XP configured her flawlessly, All I had to do was plugh the ACER in!

Good overall product

Strengths: Price, design

Weakness: lack of digital - analog switch button, one touch presetting button

Everything is good except that the buttons mentioned above are not present. I have to go through the menus to switch between my laptop and desktop when both are connected. First one I got had three dead pixels, so I got it replaced, this one doesn't have any dead pixels.

Good monitor, inexpensive for performance

Strengths: Large monitor, clear

Weakness: Flimsy stand

For about $300, a 22" 16X10 DVI monitor was too good to pass up. So far, looks good, text is crisp, now I have enough landscape for two side by side text pages. Could use a bit more contrast, but for the price, couldn't beat it.

Great Monitor at a Good Price

Strengths: Good brightness, large area, low price relative to other monitors of the same size, excellent response time

Weakness: Some flicker on certain patterns

This monitor beats my 19 inch LCD in terms of brightness and clarity! It's an excellent choice if you are on a budget, but need the screen space for your computing. The only drawback I have seen is a slight flicker of the screen redrawing with a very tight dot patter: the area between keyframe in Flash's timeline. It can be distracting.

Acer 22 inch Widescreen monitor

Strengths: Price Brightness Response in games Size/Form Factor

Weakness: Back light Bleed Some stuck pixels (really hard to notice) not a big problem Vertical viewing angle

This is a very decent monitor for the price one of the best of the 22 inch budget panels. The black light bleed on dark screens is probably the worst part of the monitor. It is mostly on the very top edge of the screen. The stuck pixel(s) is not a big problem and the vertical viewing angle is also not that bothersome. It does a very decent job at down sizing resolutions in games and is best with fixed aspect ratio in non wide screen games. It also has a very sleek simple form factor. This was bought for around two hundred and eighty dollars. I would say it is a good deal if it can be had for under 3 hundred after all expenses.

22" - Jazzed! PC packaged deal - feel like a computer only cost me $300 because this monitor is worth ever penny of $250.00 or more.

ACER Model X221W Version X221W Sd - Silver frame
1680 x 1050 5 ms 800:1 300 nils Brightness
May be a slightly different model?

Manf 2/2007 - I am not noticing any black beed through.
Is there a test to run? I am very happy to have a 22" monitor.

The Acer Aspire T690 - UD214A package included:
Acer 22" monitor
2 GB DDR2 RAM
E2140 Intel Pentium Dual-Cor
320 GB SATA
DVD - dual (read / write)
9/1 read - plus Firewire / USB2
Intel 946GZ + ICH7 controllers
Windows Vista Home Premium
For just under $550 after rebate (including tax).

I have to admit - the 22" monitor totally sold me.
The computer has the built in VGA pin - and a free PCI Experss x16 slot. So, I am probbly not seeing the real difference until the grapnics card is updated. Wondering if a dual head is worth it to add my old 20" CRT on the side or not?

Great Monitor with decent price

Strengths: fast response time, wide screen

Weakness: no height adjustment

I have bought this monitor on Thanksgiving at CircuitCity. The monitor is great with 5ms response time and wide view angle. However the material looks cheap compared to my current NEC 19inch LCD. Also there is no height adjustment. Overall I am satisfied with it based on the price and performance.

Decent widescreen monitor for the cost.

Strengths: DVI and VGA inputs, 5ms response time.

Weakness: There is a little bleed from the backlight (it's not terrible, but it's noticeable). Cannot remove stand from monitor when using a VESA mount.

I've had this monitor for a couple of weeks now, and I'm rather happy with it except for the two weaknesses I listed. I have it connected to my laptop and I use it as my primary monitor. Since my laptop was not made to use a display at this resolution, I had to download EnTech PowerStrip in order to get the computer to interact with the display at 1680x1050.

I recently ordered the Neoya X2VGA so I can connect this monitor up with my Xbox. I'm excited about running my Xbox in high def. I'll update this review after I get the X2VGA in the mail. I'm giving this monitor 3 stars until I try some gaming out on it.

I may just Dremel the stand off if I get sick of it just hanging there.

"Cannot remove stand from monitor when using a VESA mount."

This is incorrect. As with most acer LCDs, there is a snap on cover for the hinge that connects the stand to the frame. You can pull this off with a pair of pliers and then remove the 4 screws attaching the stand.

Thanks for the tip on how to remove the base mounting bracket. I'm using the 3M mounting arm with the Acer AL2216W and could not figure out how to remove the hinged bracket that attached to the base stand. Your instructions on how to remove the covers and attachment screws was most appreciated.

Thanks a lot for clarifying that nagging doubt about removing the stand from the monitor frame. I just finished installing an Ergotron LX desk mount system and couldn't figure out how to remove the stand. After reading your comment, it was a very straightforward job of removing the stand from the frame.

Good monitor

Strengths: Bright, large, wide

Weakness: cheap stand, difficult to switch between dual input

This monitor looks as good as many others that I have seen. The screen is great with no dead pixels. The stand isn't that great, but it is easy to overlook for the price. I recommend it and would buy it again.

If you have two computers and are going to switch between dual inputs often then you might want to purchase a different screen. There are buttons on the front of the monitor, but none of them switch between inputs like every other monitor I have seen. Instead, you have to go into the on screen display (OSD) to switch inputs. It wasn't really an issue for me because I only have one computer.

Amazing. A world of difference from a 15" CRT

Strengths: 5ms response time, 1680x1050, vesa mount, FREAKIN huge, 170 degree viewing angle

Weakness: Stand is a bit flimsy

I shudder when I think about life before my 22" flat panel.

It was cheap to buy (not at all in quality!) and it's really big. I don't know what more to say.

If I absolutely had to nit pick about something, it would be that the stand isn't that sturdy. It feels a bit flimsy, like when you try and lean the monitor back--you definitely feel the base lifting off of the desk or surface your monitor is resting upon.

Oh yea it wouldn't wake up from sleep mode while plugged in with DVI until i installed my ATI drivers--I'm not sure if that's a known problem with LCDs or not.

One of the best 22" LCD's in its class

Strengths: Large 22" wide screen, 1680x1050 resolution, 5ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio.

Weakness: Stand needs some more work, height not adjustable.

This is great 22" wide screen LCD monitor considering I paid $260 at CircuitCity. The size is just amazing when compared to other 19" monitors. 5ms response time and 700:1 contrast ratio is great. The stand cannot adjust height, definitely feels cheap and could use some work if Acer is to improve its quality. Overall, this is a good buy if you can get it below $300, no other famous brand names come close to $300.

great value

Strengths: 22", 5ms responce time, nice and bright

Weakness: stand could be more sturdy, but since my desk is by the wall no problems

for thouse who does not know acer is one of the biggest LCD manufacturers in the world - viewsonic and samsung uses their screens so just think about it $500 samsung next to this monitor at the store uses same screen made by acer.

i got it at circuit city for $260 and for that price there is no monitor that come close. if you can get it for under $300 that is the best choice by far.

i bought 2 of them and could not be more happy.

I have no experience with Acer displays, but I just wanted to supply a reality check for your statement about different brands using LCD panels from the same manufacturer. Read this article:

Nice monitor but DVI dies too soon

Strengths: Price, image quality

Weakness: DVI dies after months, no adjustments, slower response

I bought this monitor as a second monitor for my computer beside a HannsG from Costco for $275.
I noticed that this monitor is always displaying the image one second later than the other one.
I connected this one through DVI and HannsG through VGA.
Other than that the image is OK (HannsG image is a little more vivid than this one though). The fact the Acer does not have any adjustments created me somehow problems in aligning the 2 monitors.
The big issue was that after 3 month, the DVI connection stopped working but it was still working on VGA. I sent it back and I bought another one. Unfortunately the new one did exactly the same thing after another 3 months.
It is true that my computer runs for 12-14 hours a day continuously but this does not seem to be a problem for the other monitor I have for 3 years.
If you do not intend to use it through DVI it may not be a problem, but for me it is. Overall really disappointed with this monitor. Obviously I will try another one.

Hot Dog!

Strengths: Price, quality, making your roommate's screen look like a gameboy

Weakness: Not enough room on my desk for two

This is _the_ sweetest monitor out right now, especially for the price. It took me about two weeks to get used to seeing this monster on my desk.

The only problem now is that every other monitor looks tiny compared to this one...

Great value

Strengths: Simple design. Low price compared to other monitors of the same size.

Weakness: Stand could be sturdier and have ability to adjust height. First one I purchased had one dead pixel.

I purchased this monitor when I went to Circuit City to pick up a new desktop pc and printer. It was a great value for me because Circuit City had a $10 rebate on the monitor and a $120 combination rebate when purchased along with a pc & printer.

I was disappointed to find one dead pixel but it was easily exchanged for another one which had no dead pixels. I have been pleased with both the color and clarity and I have noticed no flicker at the recommended resolution.

I cannot say how good this monitor would be for gaming but for what I use it for (word processing, email, internet) it has worked great so far.

Good Brand

Strengths: I sell Acers at work and they work very well.

Weakness: They can be a little darker than a CRT, like all LCD.

Don't be afraid to buy because of the name, but I might wait for the price to come down. I rather have a 19" for $150, than a 22" for $384.

Size is everything!?

Strengths: Clear and big. Plug and play

Weakness: No screen mode.

Just bought this big 22" monitor for $300 at Circuit City, plug and play. Big and clear, excellent quality. I can't adjust the screen mode, there is no button for it, as one finds on many monitor and TVs. Everything is big but stretched out wide, spent a few hours searching for answer but none found. Unless I can solve this problem, I will have to return it. Emailed Acer, hope to hear from them.

you need to set the computers resolution to the monitors native resolution.

Reply by member: Alexander Nickolov

A good monitor would offer options whether to stretch or preserve the aspect ratio in any resolution in addition to upscaling. This is VERY important for older games that only have fixed resolutions. Alas this is never mentioned by manufacturers and it's very hard to find a review that states that for a particular monitor - one way or another.

Excellent low end monitor

Strengths: price and size.

Weakness: it takes about 10 button presses to switch from DVI to VGA.

Good for the price. Just received yesterday. Only real complaint is that it takes about 10 button presses to switch from DVI to VGA. So its kind of annoying for multiple computers. Other than that totally worth it.. If I was to do it over, I would probably get the HP 22 inch for the extra $20. the hp has 1 button switching and built in speakers. But over all satisfied with this monitor.

Acer 22" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Large 22" wide screen, 1680x1050 resolution, 5ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio. Fantastic picture!!

Weakness: I do not see any. The stand is just as good as others that cost more! Have to have your own speaker system, but OK!

This is great 22" wide screen LCD monitor considering I paid $254 at mwave.com and had the monitor delivered in just three days. No dead pixels. The size and picture is just amazing when compared to other monitors with this quality, without the high price. Another happy camper!!

Acer AL2216WBD

THE GOOD: Inexpensive; solid performance for the price; HDCP-compatible DVI port. THE BAD: No extras such as speakers or USB ports. THE BOTTOM LINE: Acer AL2216W is a bare-bones LCD monitor, but it represents a good value with its low price and relatively solid performance.
