Strengths: Very small footprint, and works with Linux/BSD!
Weaknesses: ADF occasionally multi-feeds, bundled Windows drivers are so-so.
Summary: This scanner is much smaller than I expected, and also a lot faster! I have it connected to my NetBSD system (using SANE), and all the computers on my network are able to scan (in duplex!). The scanner is VERY fast, especially at 300dpi (it maxes out at 600), so no complaints about speed at all.
I tried the bundled drivers for Windows, and was not very happy with what they offered, although the bundled Acrobat is a nice extra. Using the Unix drivers (with SaneTWAIN for Windows compatibility), this scanner is awesome.

Strengths: quite compact, very fast, the bundled software works very well, this is what document scanning is meant to be!
Weaknesses: occasional ADF misfeed, there is a little bit of a learning curve of setting a stack of paper in but generally works very well
Summary: I've used brand H flat bed scanners for years with quite some frustration, especially the suitability of the software for bascially turn pages of paper into electronic format (preferrably pdf). The bundled Acrobat is worth half the price of the unit. The Abby fine reader and the front end software work well for quickly and easily scanning documents. I like the fact I can control the settings to get the result I want (like turning a bunch of old yellow thermal faxes) into a text searchable pdf file in 1 or 2 minutes. The files are also reasonably compact, my old brand H version you could scan to pdf, but a simple page of B&W text could end up being 1-2 megs, instead of a more reasonable 40-80 kb. I am going to recommend this to my tax guy so he can turn a complicated tax return with odds and ends of reciepts and statements into one nice compact pdf file. If you go to the Fujitsu webstie, their video demonstration is, I think, an accurate representation of using the product. Highly recommended.

Strengths: Simple to use.
Different sized papers all go in in one stack. We have a $30,000 copier that can't do this.
Weaknesses: None - For this price, the quality is exceptional.
Summary: Saved me money - Took client's tax papers, Small W2 and 1099 papers, and large sheets of various sizes. They all scanned in without a problem, at the same time. By reducing the time to scan (feed the pages through) I get to spend more time on my clients work which gets me paid more money.
The OCR reading is great with 750 pages scanned an not a problem. This saves me more time/money as I can now index all the OCR converted pdf documents using Windows Desktop Search.

Strengths: Fast, simple, efficient, ADF works nearly flawlessly, jams are simple to clear, everything is automated and searchable
Weaknesses: It is pretty expensive for personal use. Wish it would accept up to 11"x17" without having to use carrier sheet.
Summary: This scanner has finally let me get organized! Everyday I bring home a briefcase full of papers that I have collected, spend a few minutes scanning, and toss them in the garbage. I'm now virtually paperless! Also great for keeping track of bills, etc at home. I was amazed with how quickly this machine scans...even double sided and color. Be warned though...using the option to make searchable PDF's will take some processing time (50 pages took ~5-10 minutes).

Strengths: A very fast DUPLEX sheetfed scanner. Wonderful for scanning odd sized documents.
Weaknesses: No twain scanner.
Summary: This is a compact desktop duplex sheetfed scanner excellent for scanning multiple sheets. It is very ergonomic. You will almost certainly require a second scanner if you want to scan photographs. The software took a little while to install and recognize the device, but once this was accomplished it worked extremely well on windows XP. I would recommend this scanner for rapidly converting papers to pdf format.

Strengths: Fast, compact, high quality, easy to use.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: This is a remarkable piece of equipment for a very modest price. The S500 is the size of a telephone, yet scans two sides of a document in color at about 18 pages a minute. We have had two other scanners for which we paid more money than the S500, which are four times the size and cannot compare in quality or speed or ease of use. There is basically one button - scan. The machine automatically turns on and off and is a real workhorse. We highly recommend this machine to anyone that wants it for normal office use.

Strengths: ultra compact, fast execution, quiet, one touch button, excellent software: adobe 7, abby finereader, scansnap
Weaknesses: file directory can't be changed when using scansnap software (minor drawback/possible improvement)
Summary: This is exactly what I needed to clear out my file cabinet. It can scan multiple paper pages into 1 pdf file with ease. Also allows for automatic renaming of files after each scan. Setup was fast and simple. The longest part of the installation was updating adobe 7 (3 updates). I don't know what I'd do without this product. I just love the Fujitsu S500.

Strengths: Great price, fast scanning, compact desk scanner.
Weaknesses: Only thing is it will pull multiple pages once in a while. Other than that, no weaknesses.
Summary: This scanner is a great machine. It is very easy to use and scans super fast into .pdf's, and is a perfect size as a desktop scanner. I really like this scanner and would recommend it for any office, large or small.

Strengths: Fabulous device -- scans flawlessly at high-speed
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I bought this scanner to enable moving to as paperless office as possible. This scanner is a winner!!
The S-500 scans duplex at 18ppm and single-sided copies at 25pppm converting either to searchable pdf (which can be transformed to word or excel with other software) or standard pdf (which, like e-faxes can not be searched easily). The searchable feature slows down the processing somewhat.
The product is compact (much smaller than a flatbed scanner) and reasonably priced.
Overall, a great time saver and excellent product.

Strengths: Quick and strong automatic document feeder.
Weaknesses: Pdf and jpg only scans. Basic software for this scanner is okay.
Summary: I haven't used this scanner a lot, perhaps 300 or so scans. It rarely jammed (more likely due to paper not scanner) so I'd say that you can leave it unattended for your jobs. Software isn't as useful as my previous paperport software but it is okay. I haven't tried to load 50 pages into the document feeder (I think that's the capacity of the scanner) but I have put about 15 or so pages at once into the scanner with no problems.
Overall, I like the scanner and do NOT regret this purchase.

Strengths: Fast, reliable, inexpensive, inscludes Acrobat 7.0 standard, better paper size detection
Weaknesses: sometimes pulls multiple pages, no twain driver
Summary: This thing rocks. It is perfect for small offices and home offices. It is great at scanning documents. It does not have a twain driver, so it is not well suited to do a lot of other things. That is ok, though, as it scans documents so fast and well and converts them into pdf, which is exactly what I want it to do. I have not had this long, but I have bought several scansnap 5110 and they are awesome as well. One problem I had with them is that the auto paper size detection did not work well. This one has solved that problem
