Strengths: ultra-quiet operation. Fast (8MB cache). Good packaged documentation and cd.
Weaknesses: none.
Summary: Compared to my old IBM deskstar (60GB, 2MB cache), this HD is much, much faster, and barely makes any noise at all. I would highly recommend this drive if you can pick one up for cheap. Also, documentation was very good; it was completely straightforward (even for a novice) to move my stuff from the old HD to this new one.

Strengths: Quiet operation, Large capacity, Great bundled software, 8MB cache
Weaknesses: ATA interface only, no Serial ATA (SATA) interface available
Summary: 2005-02-01 11:11:35 Seagate always has been one of the most trusted hard drive brand and this product does not disappoint. It is a very quiet drive with 8MB cache. It is reasonably priced - even better with various discounts and rebates. Highly recommended.

Strengths: Speed (when used in RAID 0 or 1), RELIABILITY, DURABILITY, low cost of ownership, run on high or low quality environment.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I own 2 of the 120GB drives and 2 of the 40GB of the same make and model and I'm very happy with their performance. Currently, my gaming pc runs two 120GB in RAID 0 and it performs amazingly fast. After running a performance test, the read and write speed improved by 38%. Even using the drive as a single will give you comparable read & write speed. However, do not use these drives as master/slave from the same EIDE cable because seek time will increase significantly due to the capacity increase.
I use a couple of simple EIDE RAID cards which I bought for $19 each from Newegg. I have tried both RAID 0 and 1, as well as have tested RAID 0+1, however, I’ve gotten the best performance in RAID 0. The only factor you need to consider when running RAID 0 is to backup your image every one or two months and prevent the bitter feeling of having to deal with a damaged image. Fortunately, I have not had such an experience with these drives yet, which brings me to the point: reliability. These drives are very reliable as they take any abuse you throw at them. I have imaged these drives for over 30 times and created new images based on different needs and these drives have never let me down. Because I work in a fast paced environment, I've managed to even drop them several times but they never failed to come back to life ever after sustaining 3 to 4 foot drops. The other factor to consider is your pc environment. These drives will run with little or no air flow. You do not need to have a fan blowing at them constantly. Therefore, they will keep your cost of ownership low while demanding a simple case with just 1 fan.
My overall conclusion; buy these drives if you're looking to save money and gain capacity, durability and reliability at a very low cost of ownership. These drives will significantly improve read & write speeds if put on a RAID 0, and improve read speed in RAID 1 (write speed remains the same due to drives behaving as a single drive (mirroring)).

Strengths: Speed, capacity, Reliability
Weaknesses: ATA-100, instead of 133
Summary: I bought this drive from a brick-and-mortar store a few years ago becasue it was $60 after rebates, and you can't beat $.50 a GB. This drive has had no problems, and neither have any of the other seagate drives I've owned. This one in in a computer that is usually left on 24/7, and it performs great. The 8MB cache makes a big difference over comparable drives with 2MB. 120GB is more than I'l need for a long time, so I hope to be using this drive for a while.
It has always been my experience that Seagate quality can't be beat.

Strengths: quiet, easy installation with upgrade CD, fast 7200RPM, 8MB cashe
Weaknesses: ATA100 not ATA133 but it is ok.
Summary: This drive comes with upgrade kit CD and it is very easy to upgrade my PC. It is very quiet. It is ATA100, not ATA133 but I think we cannot recognize the difference, it is fast enough.

Strengths: Price,Speed,5 Year Warranty
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Great drive for the price. Has a 5 year warranty which is great. I'm using this for audio/video files and I like it much better than my WD drive. I've also had my last 2 WD drives fail me out of the box, so it was nice not to have that problem this time. Will be sticking with Seagate drive now. Included software is also very good.

Strengths: Easy install for g3 imac.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Installed easily into my G3 imac. It has been mentioned that you should only go with 5400rpm for that era imac but with improvements in cooling technology it seems the 7200rpm works just fine.

Strengths: Idle Acoustics of 25 dB;
Average Seak Time of 8.5ms;
8MB Cache;
Warranty;
Price (on sale during the Holidays)
Weaknesses: none
Summary: 2004-12-19 09:16:52 I wanted to upgrade my hard drive. Being a novice I didn't really know what to look for aside from capacity, but I knew one thing is on the top of my priorities and that is noise level. Seagate has the lowest acoustics out of all the major brands. Barracuda’s 25 dB is amazing, considering the other brands reside around 35 or 30 dB!!! This saved so many headaches. Performance wise this is the fastest seek time (8.5 ms avg) I’ve seen in this price range and rpm, most of the other brands have theirs at 8.9ms or 9ms. Warranty is great. If you are buying a bare drive (OEM), please check out Seagate’s web support. They have great documentation on replacing or adding hard drives.

Strengths: Great installation software. Very quiet. Comprehensive documentation. Fast.
Weaknesses: None found yet.
Summary: The installation program that came with the drive worked great. Just plugged in the drive. It configured it, copied all files, programs, operating system, boot records, to the new drive, and changed any references to the old drive. Documentation was very complete, came with installation poster and detailed manual on CD. As advertised, it is very quiet. Unlike the old one (IBM Deskstar) I can't even hear it over the case fans (which you can hardly hear in the first place) when idle. Slight churning noise when active, but again, hardly noticable. The 8MB cache also caused a noticable increase in the speed at apps load, more so than you would expect just from a hard drive upgrade.

Strengths: Extremely quiet. Lowest noise of any hard drive I have owned over the past 20 years
Weaknesses: None
Summary: The drive is very quiet, as I expected. I used WD drives for many years but found myself in a small space where noise from the unit became a factor. I tried Maxtor and won't buy anything else.

Strengths: Very fast and quiet.
Weaknesses: None that I know of.
Summary: I wanted to upgrade to a faster and reliable hard drive. I looked at product reviews and this Barracuda was at the top of the line. This drive has extremely low noise! Access time is incredibly fast. The tools on the CD were great. You can get it now for around $70. If you are looking for one last drive to fit the W98/ME partition limit, this is it. Warranty is very extensive. Also great tech support from Seagate.

I purchased this drive to build a MythTV PVR box. ...
Strengths: Good C/P rating, quiet operation, 5 year warranty
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I purchased this drive to build a MythTV PVR box. The driver is quiet during operation although it's still audible. No obvious drawback comparing to other brands. 5 year warranty is known the longest in the market.
